Podium And Strong Points Haul At Home Race

Three days after the cars finished up in Austria, the GP3 series roared back in to action at the British circuit of Silverstone. After a solid weekend in Austria, Jack looked to cement his position as a title contender.

As a result of continued improvements made by Liberty Media, GP3 qualifying took place on Friday evening instead of Saturday. Jack had a challenging session, making a mistake on his first lap and not being able to extract the best from the car on his second. The result? 5th on the grid for the feature race, a competitive position considering the depth of the GP3 field.

Race 1 started late on Saturday afternoon, with Jack making a lightning start and making up a handful of places. Once the race settled in, he struggled with the balance of the car and as a result slipped back several positions. As the race entered the final stages, a competitor stopped on track causing a virtual safety car – and a chance to reset for the remaining laps. Jack used the opportunity to great effect, latching on to the tail of the cars ahead once the race resumed. An exceptionally opportunistic move during the dying moments saw the Anglo-Korean driver overtake the two cars ahead, resulting in a 4th place finish.

With the reverse grid in force for race 2, Jack started from 5th on the grid. Another exceptional start saw him leap up the order to 2nd position, right on the tail of the leading car. The safety car came out for an incident further down the pack, which halted his charge. After the restart, positions remained static until the final few laps. A tremendous battle ensued with all of the top 4 in contention right up until the chequered flag. Jack took his 2nd podium of the year.

Jack: A little gutted to not come away with a win at my home Grand Prix but we fought back from a tough start to the weekend to get another solid haul of points. We got the car more to my liking by the end of the weekend and we were on for the win in Race 2 before the safety car came out! Enjoyed putting on a few moves out there and the support has been amazing from the fans, looking forward to Budapest now.
